My First-Semester Experience
IUPUI Journey
My journey through the application process, orientation, and bridge week was very exciting. I was nervous with the process because I have never applied or been to college before but actually getting to the campus just made me feel excited about the possibilities IU Indianapolis could offer me. One experience that will stick with me would be when I decided to join a sorority at IUPUI. I new that I wanted to find a way to get involved and stay connected with IUPUI as a commuting student so I thought that joining a sorority might help me achieve this. Even though I was nervous and it was out of my comfort zone and I am glad that I did it. I have been given the opportunity to meet many different people and well as raise awareness for different philanthropies. Another experience would be joining the girl gains club. I was so excited with the idea of joining a group of girls who had similar interests as I did. I have learned that growth can be uncomfortable but it so worth it. If I would not have gone out of my comfort zone to join the sorority and Girl gains club I would not have met my desire of being more involved with IU Indianapolis.

Learned about Myself
Starting the year school year off as a freshman in college was a huge change for me. I had more control of my schedule. I would say that it started off as a weakness for me to find a healthy schedule that worked best. However, as the semester has gone by I have improved my time management and scheduling skills. Now I am able to better balance the time I spend for personal time, studying, getting to classes, having time for Girl Gains club, as well as making time for Alpha Chi Omega. I think that this time management and scheduling skill will be useful for my next semester now that I have a feel for how long it takes for me to study, get to classes, and how much time to schedule for extracurricular activities.
Lesson Learned
One big lesson that I would say that I learned from this first semester is that it is best to not procrastinate. I have found from this semester that I am less stressed and get more things done sooner when I get the assignments that I most dread done first. This way I am not working on an big assignments last minute before the due date and I submit my best work. I think that this lesson will help me be less stressed next semester knowing now to not procrastinate assignments and to start thinking about them as soon as they are assigned.
